The Throat

Sector ID: 9500 | OL: 60-78 | PvP: No (but effectively dangerous)

The gate connection that shortcuts thirty levels of progression. The Throat is known by every pilot in the galaxy and feared by most of them. It connects The Crucible to the endgame sector cluster - a transit that skips the entire racial pathway progression. Pilots who take it early either don't come back or come back changed.

But The Throat isn't dangerous because of the gate. The sector itself is dangerous. The spatial properties here are extreme - dark matter density spikes, sensor blackouts, the kind of conditions that draw the most aggressive fauna in the known galaxy. That's always been true. That's why it's called The Throat.

What's new - in the last year - are the other readings.

Pilots who have transited The Throat in the past twelve months report the same thing: a signal that isn't on any frequency the gate network uses, detectable only for a few minutes during transit, coming from the direction of deep void space beyond the known sectors. Some describe it as a broadcast. Some describe it as a scan. A Meridian Wayfinder who transited The Throat eight months ago filed a single-line report with the Conclave and has not spoken publicly since.

The Conclave has not released the contents of that report.

Key features: The shortcut gate (high risk, fast access to endgame), extreme fauna combat, the Signal (detectable Explore event, unlocks lore fragment, triggers Meridian quest chain), Deep Void nav points accessible only at this OL range.

Primary XP: Combat (survive the sector, extreme difficulty), Explore (the Signal and surrounding anomalies).

Mobs: Apex void fauna (OL 60-75, the hardest mob content before endgame), elite variants with boss mechanics (OL 70-78).

Lore note: The Vrael confirmation point. The Signal is the first piece of evidence in the game that is clearly not natural and clearly not any known civilization. Players who find it receive a lore entry. The lore entry has a Meridian translation that is different from the standard one. The standard translation says: unknown transmission, source unresolved. The Meridian translation says: we have found you.
