The Shattered Expanse
Sector ID: 9400 | OL: 78-90 | PvP: No (except during Vrael events)
Arrival from: The Forge (Varath path)
The Varath call this the site of the Reclamation War's final engagement - the battle that ended the Keth independence conflict and which the Varath lost. The Keth call it the Proving Ground. The actual name, the one that stuck, comes from what the sector looks like: the remnants of a planetary body, shattered by something the official histories describe as "weapons discharge of exceptional yield" and which the physical evidence suggests cannot have been produced by anything either side was fielding in that war.
Someone else was here. The Varath have known this for sixty years. It's in the classified records. It is not in the history books.
The debris field from the shattered planet is the most complex navigation environment in the game - and the most lucrative. Mineral concentrations from a planetary core exposed to open space, wreck salvage from both sides of a major military engagement, and buried in the oldest debris, things that predate the war entirely.
Key features: Shattered planet debris field (mining and salvage endgame), military wreck salvage (Explore), classified Varath research stations (restricted zones), the Buried Layer (deepest debris, Ancient-era material, highest-value content in the game).
Primary XP: Combat (debris field fauna, corporate security), Trade (mining and salvage from a planetary core), Explore (the Buried Layer, military wreck logs).
Mobs: Debris field apex fauna (OL 78-88), Varath corporate security (hostile if standing is bad, elite tier), elite salvager pirates (OL 82-90).
Vrael events: The Shattered Expanse events are different from the other two endgame sectors. The Vrael here don't probe or hold position. They collect. Event: Retrieval Operation - a Vrael vessel appears in the Buried Layer and begins extracting material. Players who interrupt it before completion receive high-value rewards. Players who let it complete... the Vrael extract something, and leave, and the Meridian Conclave issues a statement that is three sentences long and does not explain why the Conclave representative was visibly distressed when she delivered it.
