Manufacturer Brands
Equipment in this world is made by someone. The manufacturer determines the naming convention, the visual style, and the flavor of the description. When authoring items, assign a manufacturer from this list.
Each manufacturer has a manufacturer_id that maps to a manufacturers table. The item_base.manufacturer field links to it.

Weapon Naming - Master Table
Each tier uses the same manufacturer line structure. Weapon names don't repeat the manufacturer name in the stat entry - it's shown as manufacturer field. The name is [Line] [Descriptor] [Mk N].
Bastion Arms lines:
| Tier | Light Beam | Assault Beam | Heavy Beam |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mk I | Bastion Compact Mk I | Bastion Service Mk I | Bastion Combat Mk I |

Shields
Existing items are well-named. Update their descriptions to reference the world:
| Item | Updated Description |
|---|---|
| SG-1 Barrier | Standard deflector field. Common spec across all three races' basic ship configurations. |
| SG-2 Aegis Field | Improved cycling rate. Preferred by pilots operating in sustained combat zones. |
| SG-3 Ward Matrix | Multi-node distribution. Bastion Arms' influence on this standard is visible in the construction. |
| SG-4 Bastion Array | Hardened military-grade shielding. Rated for continuous combat operations. |
| SG-5 Fortress Grid | High-end shield technology derived from Navy capital ship specs. Rarely seen on personal vessels. |
| SG-6 Phalanx Core | Experimental shielding with near-instantaneous recharge. Origin uncertain - some components predate current manufacturing methods. |
Vigil Forge produces alternate shield lines with better maneuvering integration; Praxar Armaments doesn't produce shields (philosophy: if your hull is failing, fight harder).
Engines
| Item | Updated Description |
|---|---|
| DR-1 Thruster | Basic chemical propulsion. First-generation equipment. Gets you where you need to go; does not impress. |
| DR-2 Ion Drive | Ion acceleration. Standard issue across most commercial ship configurations. |
| DR-3 Plasma Drive | Plasma injection system. Significant improvement over ion; preferred by combat pilots who can afford the maintenance. |
| DR-4 Fusion Drive | Compact fusion propulsion. High thrust-to-mass ratio. Stratum Corp's preferred engine for frontier extraction vessels. |
| DR-5 Antimatter Drive | Antimatter annihilation thrust. Military-adjacent technology; technically requires a permit in Varath core sectors. |
| DR-6 Singularity Drive | Gravitational distortion propulsion. The engineering behind this is not fully understood by its own manufacturer. Ancient structural analysis has influenced the design. |
Reactors
| Item | Updated Description |
|---|---|
| PG-1 Power Cell | Fission-based power generation. Entry-level output. Reliable, simple, repairable with standard tools. |
| PG-2 Fusion Core | Compact fusion. The standard for pilots who use abilities regularly. |
| PG-3 Plasma Reactor | Plasma containment. Sustains heavy ability use without output degradation. Common on Varath Vanguard builds. |
| PG-4 Zero-Point Cell | Zero-point energy extraction. High capacity; output curve is not fully linear - pilots report sudden availability spikes under stress. |
| PG-5 Dark Matter Core | Dark matter reactor. Extreme density. The Meridian have been studying this technology for longer than the Varath have been manufacturing it. |
| PG-6 Quantum Core | Quantum vacuum reactor. Peak output in known manufacturing. Roughly a third of these were built from components that nobody has conclusively sourced. |
Devices
No device items currently exist in the DB. This entire category needs to be authored.
Devices are passive equipment occupying device0–device5 slots. They modify secondary stats rather than primary combat stats. Good device choices separate skilled builds from default ones.

Mining Ores - Lore Notes
The ores are functionally named and don't need renaming. These notes provide in-world flavor for item descriptions.
| Ore | In-World Context |
|---|---|
| Iron Ore | Ubiquitous throughout entry sectors. Varath colonial infrastructure has been built on it for three centuries. |
| Copper Ore | Conductive and abundant. The Nexus electronics supply chain starts here. |
| Silicon Deposit | Crystalline semiconductor base. Occurs naturally in high-dark-matter-density asteroid fields. |
| Carbon Compound | Dense lattice carbon - not graphite, something harder. Occurs near stellar remnants. |
| Titanium Ore | High-strength, low-mass. Praxar military has been purchasing Titanium futures contracts for twelve years. |
| Cobalt Ore | Magnetic properties. Engine coil fabrication requires it. The Stratum Corp holds the majority of known deposits. |
| Tungsten Ore | Extremely dense, high melting point. Appears near active volcanic bodies and Ancient site adjacencies. |
| Plasma Crystal | Naturally occurring plasma lattice. Only forms in specific spatial conditions; Meridian navigators can locate deposits that other races have difficulty finding. |
| Rare Earth Cluster | Lanthanide concentration. Required for advanced optical systems. The Meridian Vigil has shown interest in Rare Earth deposits in ways they haven't explained. |
| Quantum Dust | Sub-atomic particle lattice - not quite matter. Occurs only in the deep sectors. Every major faction has standing purchase orders for whatever quantity the market offers. |
Crafting Components - Lore Notes
| Component | In-World Context |
|---|---|
| Alloy Plate | Iron and titanium composite. The foundation of most hull fabrication. |
| Circuit Board | Silicon wafer, copper traces. The most manufactured item in the known galaxy, by volume. |
| Power Transistor | High-current switching component. Three competing manufacturing standards make cross-compatibility an ongoing irritant. |
| Fiber Optic Bundle | Light-conducting filaments for sensor and targeting systems. Stratum Corp holds several patents that everyone ignores. |
| Magnetic Coil | Wound cobalt-core electromagnet. The same basic component appears in engines, weapons, and shield generators. |
| Crystal Lens | Precision-ground optical element for beam weapon focusing. Varath master craftspeople can produce these; the Meridian consider Varath-grade lenses to be charming approximations. |
| Ceramic Composite | Heat-resistant layered material. Originally developed for atmospheric re-entry shielding. Now used in everything. |
| Plasma Conduit | Magnetically shielded channel for plasma transport. The failure mode is memorable. |
| Neural Processor | Bio-synthetic computing substrate. The Meridian pioneered this technology; what's available commercially is a heavily simplified version. |
| Quantum Lattice | Quantum-coherent material structure. Practical fabrication of this was not understood until three years ago. Several independent researchers claim simultaneous discovery. The Meridian have not commented. |
Mission Loot Items
The category -1 items in the DB are all from the original E&B universe (Jenquai/Progen/Terran era) and should be replaced. The following categories represent the mission loot vocabulary for this world.
Salvage and Debris
Items recovered from destroyed ships or wreck fields. Used as mission objectives ("collect 3 Praxar Wreckage Cores") and occasionally as crafting ingredients.
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Salvage Core | Generic wreckage. Compacted material with no specific origin. Sells as scrap. |
| Praxar Wreckage Core | Salvaged from a Praxar combat vessel. Dense crimson alloy. Praxar ships are built to be destroyed rather than captured. |
| Varath Hull Fragment | Plating from a Varath vessel. Stamped with a house glyph that survived whatever destroyed the rest. |
| Meridian Hull Shard | Grown-material fragment from a Vigil or Wayfarer ship. The material resists standard analysis. |
| Stratum Extraction Module | Partial drilling assembly from a Stratum extraction vessel. Functional, dirty, and worth something to the right buyer. |
| Scavenger Chassis Scrap | Low-grade salvage. Multiple repair attempts visible. |
Ancient Fragments
Recovered from Ancient structures or Ancient-adjacent mob drops. Used in endgame crafting and the Meridian race arc.
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Ancient Fragment | Structural material from an Ancient site. Standard commercial catalog doesn't have a material classification for it. Deepveil pays well. |
| Ancient Data Core | An intact storage medium. What it contains is unclear; reading it requires equipment that only the Conclave produces. |
| Ancient Resonance Shard | Fragment that emits a low-level psionic impression. Non-Meridian handlers report mild disorientation. Meridian handlers do not discuss what they experience. |
| Ancient Lattice Component | A mechanical part of unknown function. Exactly as complex as it looks, which is very complex. |
| Gate Seal Fragment | Material recovered from the interior of a gate structure - not the outer housing, something deeper. The Meridian Conclave has standing buy orders at any quantity. |
Vrael Evidence
Dropped by Vrael encounters. Used in the seal-restoration chain.
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Vrael Transmission Fragment | Encrypted data packet. Unreadable with standard equipment. Deepveil offers credits; the Conclave offers something better. |
| Vrael Hull Sample | Material from a destroyed Vrael probe. Not manufactured in any conventional sense. |
| Vrael Resonance Imprint | A psionic impression recorded at the moment of Vrael contact. Handling requires care. Non-Meridian handlers are advised not to handle at all. |
Faction Intelligence Items
Used as mission objectives for faction chains. Value is in delivering them, not selling them.
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Stratum Survey Data | Encrypted survey results from an active Stratum extraction site. The encryption is better than it should be for routine survey data. |
| Praxar Transmission Log | Intercepted military communication. Useful to the Ashveld. Potentially dangerous to be carrying. |
| Bastion Contract Manifest | Documentation of a Bastion Arms supply arrangement that isn't in their public filings. |
| Beacon Network Source Files | Investigative material from a reporter who stopped reporting. |
| Concordat Diplomatic Record | Official diplomatic communication. The interesting ones are the ones marked "INFORMAL - DO NOT FILE." |
Consumable Materials
Mid-tier items used in crafting or as trading goods. Not equipment; cargo value items.
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Refined Fuel Cell | Processed fuel for warp drive systems. High-grade commercial specification. |
| Medical Supplies | Standard pharmaceutical kit. Always in demand at frontier stations. |
| Station Rations | Compressed food blocks. Nutritionally complete; culinarily not. Nexus Industries standard. |
| Encrypted Data Chip | Personal data storage. The encryption is not your business. Pays well on delivery. |
| Beacon Network Uplink Key | Authorization token for secure Beacon Network data access. One-time use. |
Named / Unique Items
Named items drop from specific bosses or are earned through quest chains. They have unique names (no "Mk N" designation), specific lore, and stats that exceed their tier ceiling in one targeted way.
Naming Convention for Named Items
[Flavor name] - [Lore note]
The flavor name is evocative of the source. The lore note is a single sentence that places it in the world.
Examples:
- "The Rat King's Mantle" - salvaged shield array from the wreck The Rat King called home for eleven years
- "Ralleck's Sidearm" - Commander Ralleck's personal Bastion-marked beam weapon; he will not be needing it
- "Maren's Extraction Core" - Site Director Maren's personally modified reactor; the performance justifies the risk she was taking running it at those temperatures
- "The Gnaw" - A beam weapon assembled from parts that have no common origin, found in Gnaw's cargo hold. It works better than it should.
- "Vigil Cipher" - An Ancient-sourced device recovered from the Abyss Gate approach. The Conclave would like it back. Their request has been noted.
Named Item Design Rules
- Named items should come from characters the player has encountered - either killed or completed a chain for
- The stat bonus should reflect the character's role: a sniper enemy's weapon drops a precision item; a tank enemy drops hull plating
- The description should have a dry observation about the source
- Named items are never craftable - they are found or earned
