Bloodmark
"You know us by what we left behind."
Racial lean: Keth (Praxar-aligned) | Funded by: Praxar military houses
Territory: Conflict Zone (western), Thornveil Deep approaches, Duskhollow exterior
Fleet colors: Crimson, black, bone-white kill markers
Bloodmark is what it looks like. The most feared combat Fleet in the galaxy by raw pilot quality, built and funded by Praxar military houses who wanted a deniable force capable of things their official military cannot officially do. Every Bloodmark pilot is Keth. Every Bloodmark ship is Keth-built. The cross-racial membership that characterizes most major Fleets is, in Bloodmark, absent by design - membership is earned through combat record, and the bar is set to produce a cohort that thinks the same way about fighting, which in practice produces a cohort that is almost entirely Praxar-aligned.
Bloodmark does not have a governing council. It has a commander: Warlord Sethren Kael, who holds the position by virtue of being the person no one has successfully challenged in eleven years. Below Kael there are wing commanders. Below the wing commanders there are pilots. The structure is minimal because the Praxar cultural tradition is minimal - authority is earned, not inherited, and re-earned constantly.
Culture: Bloodmark treats every engagement as a test of earned worth. Pilots who fail the test don't get second chances. Pilots who pass it earn permanent standing - kill record, dueling honors, the bone-white markers that accumulate on their hull designations. A Bloodmark pilot with sixteen white markers is not showing off. They are showing history.
What outsiders miss: Bloodmark is not stupid. Their pilots can read a situation where direct assault is wrong and will choose different tactics. They have Kiter-trained pilots who are as dangerous as their Brawlers. The "berserker Keth" reputation is partially accurate and partially a performance that Bloodmark has found useful.
What they're actually doing: Three Praxar houses have commissioned Bloodmark to determine whether the Ancient sites in Meridian space contain Keth-relevant genetic data. The working theory - drawn from fragments of Meridian information that the Praxar paid significantly to acquire - is that the Ancients may have been involved in the original Keth genetic design, and that the sites contain records of that involvement. The Praxar want to know if their lifespan problem has a solution encoded in ruins.
