Abyss Gate
Sector ID: 9202 | OL: 52-65 | PvP: No
The last sector of the Meridian path before the endgame. Abyss Gate is named for the gate terminal at its center - Ancient construction, intact, functional, and connected to somewhere that the Varath gate network records show as destination unresolved. The gate works. Nobody who has tried to transit it has come back to report where it goes.
The Meridian have been in continuous low-level argument with the Varath Concordat about who has authority over the Abyss Gate for twenty years. The Varath want to send a survey fleet through. The Meridian have made it quietly but clearly understood that they consider this inadvisable. The survey fleet has not been sent.
Key features: The Abyss Gate (Ancient, functional, unknown destination - major lore object), Meridian defensive presence (high concentration of Warden and Wayfinder pilots), deep dark matter channels (high Explore XP for navigation mastery).
Primary XP: Explore (the Gate and surrounding Ancient structures), Combat (defending the Gate from Varath corporate expeditions that don't go through official channels).
Mobs: Deep void fauna (OL 52-63, rare and powerful), corporate expedition ships (OL 55-65, Varath-affiliated but operating without clearance).
Lore note: The Conclave knows where the Abyss Gate goes. Three members of the Conclave have transited it, generations ago, when the memories that the Meridian carry were more complete. The destination information is stored in a psionic impression that no living Meridian has been able to fully read. What surfaces from the attempt is not navigational data. It is fear.
