Factions
The galaxy runs on relationships. Standing with a faction determines what missions they offer, what stations they let you dock at, what prices you pay, and whether their patrol ships treat you as an ally or a target. Every player starts with default standings inherited from their race - high with their own race's institutions, neutral with most neutrals, cool with rivals. What you do from there is your business.
The faction standing system uses a scale of -10,000 to +10,000.
| Range | Status | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| -10,000 to -2,001 | Hostile | KOS at all affiliated stations; patrols attack on sight |
| -2,000 to -1 | Unfriendly | Docking denied at affiliated stations; patrols hostile |
| 0 to 1,999 | Neutral | Basic docking; standard prices; no patrol aggro |
| 2,000 to 4,999 | Friendly | Access to faction missions; minor discounts |
| 5,000 to 7,499 | Trusted | Advanced missions; significant discounts; faction escorts available |
| 7,500 to 10,000 | Exalted | All content unlocked; best prices; faction named-NPC contact |
Design note: In casual conversation and mission writing, use rough qualitative descriptions (Hostile/Neutral/Friendly/Trusted/Exalted) rather than raw numbers. Numbers are for DB configuration, not player-facing text.
Standing changes:
- Completing faction missions: +10 to +50 depending on mission tier
- Killing faction-affiliated mobs: standing loss with their faction, minor gain with rivals
- Trade deliveries, patrol assists, and story mission outcomes also affect standing
- Some factions have locked floors - you cannot fall below a certain threshold with them once you reach Trusted (prevents grinding away your own faction)
