The Ashvein Syndicate
"No invoice, no evidence."
The galaxy's most organized criminal network - not a gang, not a pirate fleet, but a logistics company for things that shouldn't be shipped. The Ashvein Syndicate moves contraband, launders proceeds, arranges political inconveniences, and provides services to people who have problems that legitimate organizations can't solve. They are professional, reliable, and have a strict policy against harming their own clients.
The Syndicate has members from all three races, managed through a cell structure designed so that no single arrest can expose more than a small piece of the whole. Their leadership is unknown. Their prices are not cheap. Their delivery rate is 94%, which is better than most legitimate couriers.
The Syndicate is a faction for players who want to operate outside faction politics entirely. Their missions are well-paid and illegal. Standing with them provides black market access at every station; very high standing attracts the attention of every law enforcement faction simultaneously.
Space: Operates in Conflict Zone and The Throat primarily. Has contacts in every major hub.
What they want: Stability of the illegal kind. Ongoing demand for gray and black market services. No single faction becoming powerful enough to disrupt their operations.
Starting standing: All races: 0 | Cannot gain standing through normal missions - must be introduced by a contact
Missions: Smuggling runs, document forgery, targeted theft, interference operations, off-the-books information brokerage.
Exalted perk: Syndicate network - access to black market vendor at any station; missions from Syndicate-affiliated brokers in contested zones.
The Vrael - Not a Faction
The Vrael cannot be negotiated with, cultivated, or traded with. They do not have diplomatic representatives. They have not and will not respond to contact. There is no standing track, no mission board, no exalted perk.
Some Varath houses will attempt contact anyway. This is not a game mechanic. It is a story that ends badly.
The Vrael are encountered as environmental content: incursion events in The Throat and the three endgame sectors. Killing Vrael ships yields Vrael transmission fragments - encrypted data packets that the Deepveil and the Conclave are both trying to decode. These fragments unlock lore and contribute to the Meridian seal-rebuilding mission chain. They are not a faction reward. They are evidence.
